Look out Apollo!!!!

Jaden and I went ice skating last night and you have got to see this kid! He is amazing on a pair of ice skates!!! I helped put them on and the he just took off walking around on them by himself. I thought he would need help getting used to walking with them--false. He showed off by walking forwards, backwards, sideways, and with his eyes closed!

We went to the Olympic Oval which is a speed skating track, not your typical skating rink. The oval is huge, about the size of a running track. We went around the whole track 5 times!!! Each time we went around Jaden just got better and better. The first time he held onto my hand and the wall. We basically just walked around on the ice with little stutter steps. We went pretty slowly but Jaden taught himself how to stop using the toe pick and stopped himself from falling quite a few times...but we did fall...a lot. Jaden was such a good sport, he just said, "I'm okay!" and got back up and kept going. After the first time around, which took about 30 minutes, we had to take a break because the zamboni had to clean the ice, which took FOREVER. Seriously, 23 minutes to clean the ice. We were getting antsy.

When we got back on again, Jaden started getting more brave and picked up speed. We went around in less time with fewer falls with every lap. Then he started actually gliding a little bit on the ice, closing his eyes, taking little jumps, weaving his feet in and out a little, and then...he let go of the wall...and then me! He started doing it all by himself. Then when he would fall, he would say, "It's okay to fall because that's how we learn." On the last time around he only fell 2 times! That is incredible because the track is ginormous and it was only his first time! Way to go Jaden! We had so much fun! He did say that he wished his family was there so that they could see how good he was. So here are some videos of him skating. Sorry they aren't very good, I'm not the most coordinated skater/photographer.

  1. Holy cow, Jaden is awesome! That looks like so much fun! Was it like way slippery after the zamboni finished? I'm jealous, I wish I could have gone. Good date idea Alli!

  2. It was very slippery after the zamboni finished. But it didn't get too close to the wall so it was still pretty chunky there, then when Jaden started getting better he got off the wall and into slicker territory. And they did have those walker things for kids to use but they ran out.

  3. Alli, he seriously had so much fun. Thanks for taking him on a date. :) I loved when he came home and kept saying, "I am SUCH a good skater! I did SO good!" I have to admit I was a little worried that he would give up and pout the first time he fell. I'm so proud of him. We should all go sometime. You're right, he DOES keep saying, "I want everyone to go so they can see how good I skate." But your skatography was better than I could hve done!

  5. What did you do? Oh! You Ice skated. Well, that ice did NOT look like ice. Jaden! JADEN!GO JADEN! Why did you go ice skating in ice that doesn't look like ice. Why did you go ice skating when there's an edge that doesn't look like ice, and not fall? Answer my question, Okay? OKAY?

  6. Okay Ethan. I will answer your question...

I went Ice skating with Alli because she wanted me to go. And it really IS ice! Do you see ice with you milk or water? It's like that but it is bigger... a whole round that you can skate on. Just like what's in your milk or water. Ice skating makes you a better improve for the olympics. Can you hear that? Olympics. You know why Olympics? They come all around the world to do that, you see? That is how you do it! Ice skating is a kind of sport. But it really is ice. You didn't think that it was, but it really is because it is ice. Have you been ice skating before? I did.
    Love, Jaden.

  7. Jaden --
    What's Olympics?
Yes! I just went ice skating. I skated in a hockey ice place, where the Saint Louis Blues practice for their games. I will post a blog about it sometime, just like yours.

    Aunt Alli--
What about the rest of your date? Do you want to go on a date with me? We could go ice skating on the same one as Jaden. We could snack on Ketsup and make a volcano. And go to the beach! And snack cranberry sauce. And build a snowman if it's snowing. Yes? Promise me!

  8. Yes, I promise you. When you are here in Utah while the ice skating rink is still open, I would LOVE to take you on a date and watch you snack on ketsup and clean up your volcano. I would love love love to go to the beach, but we don't live close to one. Would you like to go swimming instead? And then I can watch you snack on cranberry sauce. And we can build a snowman too…but we probably couldn't go swimming when it's snowman-building weather, huh? Well, hurry and come to Utah so we can go on our date!
